Supporting the wider community

Over the years, it has become Young Bristol’s increasing passion for our venues to become a vibrant facilitator to local communities.

Many of Young Bristol’s venues are located in the most deprived urban communities in Bristol. During daytime hours, Young Bristol’s Community Youth Clubs and other venues are under-utilised, whilst children and young people attend school.

Young Bristol’s work across generations has developed over the years, with a popular Silver Social group for over 55s at Ashton Vale Club for Young People, boxing sessions for those affected by Parkinson's Disease at Broad Plain & Riverside Youth Project, and intergenerational opportunities benefiting young and old.

As we develop this work, our vision continues with the aim to connect communities, reducing social isolation and loneliness, and improve attitudes to the local area.

Our programmes

Young Bristol runs a club for over 55’s where older people can enjoy water-based activities, such as gig rowing, canoeing and kayaking. The club also incorporates fun social activities aimed at reducing loneliness.

For several years we have run a popular ‘Silver Social’ group for over 55’s at Ashton Vale Club for Young People. Older people can enjoy the company of others over a hot drink and a chat. There are games and activities available to try including board games, ping pong and pool, plus occasions where the group will be joined by young people from the local primary school.
